Cleaning your home is something that we all have to do, no matter if you’re living alone, with your family or with a partner. None of us wants to live amidst dust bunnies or have a home overrun with gross bugs.. blech! Weekly vacuuming and mopping is one thing but sometimes, the dirt can get the best of you.

Here are some awesome cleaning hacks for stubborn stains at home.

Removing oil with oil

Greasy kitchen? Try removing it with baby oil! Pour some on a paper towel and wipe it across sticky surfaces and see the grease melt away. Follow up with an all-purpose cleaner to clean off the rest of the oil.

Baking soda is magic

Baking soda can be used in every corner of the house and best is that it is super cheap!  Sprinkle baking soda on your mattress and carpets or rugs to absorb smells and excess moisture. Leave the baking soda on for 10-15 minutes and vacuum it up afterward and enjoy the freshness. This can also be applied to pet beds!

Make a paste with water and baking soda and scrub your bathroom tiles to get the soap scum and other gunk off.

Vinegar + Baking Soda > Most household cleaning supplies

Now, you already have baking soda in your cleaning arsenal. Add to that some white vinegar and you’re in for a cleaning treat!

If your laundry is starting to smell a little funky, it could be your washing machine. For top-loading washing machines, let the water run for a few minutes then pour half a cup of baking soda into it, then one litre of white vinegar. Let the machine run then run a second cycle to help get rid of the smell of vinegar. For front-loading machines, add the white vinegar into the detergent drawer and baking soda to the softener dispenser then begin the wash cycle. Same with the top-loading washing machines, run another cycle to get rid of the smell.

You can even use this combo to unclog your kitchen sink! Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain then follow up with 1 cup of boiling vinegar. Plug the drain in order to keep the fizzing action in the pipes. After 5-10 minutes, unplug the drain and pour hot water down the drain to flush. Voila!

Another magical way to use baking soda is to use 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of baking soda and let sit for 1 minute. Then, swish it around and add a bit more vinegar to get it fizzing.
