@smashpop, better known as Jason, takes lifestyle, travel, and food photos on his Instagram page with a smattering of gadgets and men’s fashion as well.

Before going viral, he already had a hefty following of 42.9k and it has grown to 56.1k in just 3 days. For scale, Greenland has a population of almost 56,000 and Jason’s Instagram has more followers than the country has people!

The post itself has garnered over 20,000 likes and the image has been reposted by many other Instagram accounts and featured on sites like Bored Panda, 9gag, and Reddit.

This Instagram account with 10.8 million followers has reposted it too!

Reaching out to Jason, we wanted to gauge his feelings and he has this to say:

Trending Train: How do you feel after going viral internationally?

Jason: It was shocking as I never expected the photo to go viral so quickly and so massively worldwide. I am flattered that my photo and editing skills gained me recognition from giant profiles and news sites all over the world.

TT: What is your daily rig like when you travel?

Jason: When I travel, I always bring along my trusty Panasonic Lumix G85 and also my DJI Mavic Pro. At times, I would also use my smartphone to capture photos on the street.
TT: How do you frame your shots?

Jason: Basic rules of thirds applies. HAHA! But most importantly, it is to capture beautiful sceneries and mostly spots that aren’t captured by others. Taking street photos, travel photos and food photos are my drivers when travelling.

TT: What’s your message to people who want to take great pics like you?

Jason: Always have an eye for spots. Try to view everything with a square frame around so you can imagine how they look like on Instagram. But most importantly, edit your shots before publishing them  because only through editing you can purely show your feel and style in your photos.

And there you have it! There’s no need for fancy equipment nor a team to take great pictures. Jason also hosts photography and editing workshops now and then so if you’re interested, do follow him at @smashpop on Instagram and follow his Facebook for updates!
