How much do you know about Thai cuisine? Does Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Mango Sticky Rice ring a bell? These are normally the most sought-after dishes at a Thai restaurant. But did you know Khao Ka Moo (Braised Pork Leg), Moo Ping (Pork Skewers) and Red Ruby Dessert are also one of the few favourites among the locals.
Khao Kha Moo (Braised Pork Leg)
Thai cuisine is traditionally healthy with all its herbs and spices, but it does have its fatty and sinfully delicious dishes. Khao Kha Moo is not only a favourite of the Thailand’s Prime Minister, but it’s also one of the commonly served dishes by street vendors in Thailand. Just the thought of it’s fall-off-the-bone texture and the succulent sauce, we are salivating already!
Moo Ping (Thai Pork Skewers)
Moo Ping is basically thai-style grilled pork on a skewer that is marinated by pounding coriander root, pepper and garlic and then grilled on a charcoal BBQ. Moo Ping has many different recipes each with a different marinade and milk is indispensable because it tenderises the pork (secret recipe). Did you know Moo Ping is also a breakfast dish for the locals? because its everywhere on the street and relatively cheap (5 t0 10 bahts).
Red Ruby Dessert
This is one of the most well-known Thai’s culinary creations. What made this coconut-based dessert so special is the small ruby red jewels covered in tapioca flour where the crunch actually comes from water chestnut and the colour resembles pomegranate seeds.
